We had the good fortune to make the acquaintance of John Longley and his son a few years ago when we were seeking a reputable builder to re-lay our driveway. Of those we approached, we were most impressed with John's attitude and the detailed printed quotation that he provided. The work was excellent and shortly after, all the neighbours suddenly began to have crazy paved paths…none of which were done to John's standards however. (Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery?)When we wanted a patio laid, we again called on John and the result is a great garden feature. At the time, we vaguely discussed having the conservatory enlarged some time in the future.
This year (summer of 2007) we were able to go ahead and John took a lot of time and effort in helping us decide on the ideal design and materials.
As usual, the job tended to 'grow' as we requested among other things to be included, a tiled floor, a new gate and the retiling of a shower cubicle. John, as we knew he would, took everything in his good-humoured stride and all was completed on time and to a superb finish.
Thanks to the two Johns we now have a new modern living space which has undoubtedly added value to our property.

Our project was a major renovation of our chaotic garden into a usable, simple to maintain space with a studio in the garden to work from.
John and his son John worked tirelessly and with humour as the rain fell. Digging out the garden and laying enormously heavy slabs of beautiful York stone.
As the work developed, John senior was very obliging when we changed our ideas time and time again to incorporate design changes as the project unfolded. Never a complaining, simply doing as we instructed to a tight budget. They constructed the studio from plans that we draw up, and tinkered with as we went along. The build is strong and accurate, and now happily housing our business.
I would strongly recommend J.M. Longley & Son to anyone. They are a friendly, professional outfit, and were accurate to there quote. Just beware of their tea making though. It tends to be thick and dark. My idea of hell!
